Some had vastly over the top rules for their relatively cheap points levels, while others seemed far too expensive in points for their in-game performance. I think it is fair to say however that there was a wide gulf in the balance and efficiency of these units.

We also have full reviews of both Codex Supplement: Space Wolves and Codex Supplement: Deathwatch, both also up for preorder today!īack at the launch of the 8th edition of Warhammer 40,000 we saw a series of volumes from Forge World collecting together all the rules for Forge World units in the new edition of the game. We have a look through the book in our YouTube video, or keep scrolling to see our full written review as we did into the datasheets and changes, and investigate what goodies are within! I admit, it's not exactly convenient- but at least everything you need to calculate points values is there on one page spread, and if they do put out an app the way they did for AoS it will be fairly trivial to calculate things at that point.Today we see the new Imperial Armour Compendium up for pre order from Forge World! This mighty 224 page book collects together the rules for the majority of current Forge World kits that are available to buy over on the Forge World website (It doesn’t include any discontinued models – so keep that in mind if you have any older kits, these will receive separate Legends support over on Warhammer Community allowing you to use these in friendly games)Īs someone who loves the Death Korps of Krieg and the Titan Legions, I was very excited to see this book and check out the profiles contained within! We were very lucky to receive a copy of Imperial Armour Compendium a little early from Games Workshop to review and share the content with you all! Condensing page count and layout saves GW money, which means they can afford to sell things for less.

This could also theoretically be possible if you did things old-style with individual upgrade listings in each unit, but note that doing so would not only make it harder to FAQ or update books (in terms of raw printing and editing costs), but also would take up VASTLY more space and thus drive up the cost of the Indexes themselves- remember, these are essentially 4-5 codexes crammed together for $25, when the old codexes were $50 a pop. This allows them to individually adjust the price of the Scatter Laser (if that weapon is too good in general) or of the Windrider (if it is the platform, not the weapon that is overperforming.) So six months down the line, they decide to fix that. Think about it this way: say a certain unit ends up being too good, like Windriders with Scatter Lasers. Too expensive for screening, though you can just chuck a couple in the squad. But you can stick stock terms in front (or behind, depending on range stuff), and there's reliable delivery mechanisms for 'suicide' drops, and tervs may be an obnoxious thing. So, yeah – devilgants are by far the most pts efficient anti-light infantry option in the codex.

Barbed strangler (and stranglethorn, but it's still less hits on average than MC Deathspitter) do get a +1 to hit vs units of 10+, but are still only D6 shots and aren't cheap once you add in platform (looking at over 100 pts min for either – not sure exactly). There's the MC bio-cannons (deathspitters/Stranglethorn), but they'll usually have better things to be doing due to being high S/having an AP with decent (but not huge) no of shots. Biovores where, but now they're…anti heavy infantry, for some reason (mortal wound on a 4+ from S4 large blast). Ish? Depends how much you value survivability of the platform vs output.
